Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, Cape Coast North Member of Parliament has emerged winner in a keenly contested NDC Primaries in his constituency.
In a contest where four other people competed against him during the NDC primary held at the premises of the West African Examination Council at Mempeasem, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku pulled 568 votes to emerge the winner.
Charles Walker who most pundits had tipped to unseat Dr. Nyarku pulled 414 votes with Ibrahim Muntari, Hammond Nii Martey and William Abeiku receiving 31, 23, and 9 votes respectively.
In announcing the results, the Presiding Officer from the Electoral Commission, Mr. Richard Asenso declared that, the total valid votes cast was 1045, with 4 being rejected and 1049 being total votes.
In his victory speech to the media, Ragga as he is popularly known thanked all the contestants for making the contest beautiful and a challenging one. “Secondly, l thank all my team members including all community members within my constituency because they’ve shown me love and proven they can support someone embarking on a worthy course”.
“Thirdly, I thanked all the EC officials ensuring everything went well because we were hearing some rumours which otherwise meant things could go awry. I sincerely thank all those who prayed for me”, he said.
Me and my team are very appreciative of the honour done me and we are going to work hard together with the other contestants to retain the seat. “We’re never going to allow the seat to slip from our hands to the NPP. God should grant us all with bounteous blessings, love, fellow feeling, wisdom to be able to work together to retain the seat for NDC” an elated Ragga indicated.
Further, he encouraged all the NDC faithfuls to remain steadfast and live in harmony as one family and work harder together to make Cape Coast North a better place to live.
Reacting to the threats of suing a party member for insulting him, the Cape Coast North Member of Parliament noted that “Insults are part of politics but when you go beyond the limit it becomes very, very unfriendly”.
“I had issues where some people had to say false things about me. I pressed to sue them but I’ve been thinking about it and for the purpose of the constituency, I’ve decided to let it go and please this is how it ought to be to help us win the seat”, he promised.
