Reading the police report on the arrest of suspects in the murder of Private Imoro Sheriff, I think it is time and prudent to educate the public.
Those who want to buy used cell phones, laptops, and other devices very cheaply from questionable sellers and scammers need to be very careful in Ghana.
You may be caught by the police late at night, and in jail for days, weeks, months, and even years.
Reflecting on the Mfantsiman murder case by the Attorney General presented to the Court some years back, It is very attractive and eye-opening.
He stole the late parliamentarian‘s phone before killing him. Fortunately, the phone appears to have a tracker installed. Police traced the phone to the Kumasi Aquatia line, where the prime suspect was arrested. He claimed to have bought the phone from another person in Abrepo.
The phone passed through the hands of three separate people, all of whom were purchased at different prices. The person who is said to have sold the original phone is now missing.
This is similar to what the Ghanaian police recounted in the killing of a young army officer in Ashaiman. Several suspects have been arrested for being involved in transactions related to the mobile phone in one way or another.
Though things are tough in the country, be a good citizen and protect yourself as well. Do not support these dubious sellers. Even if you are going to buy, be very vigilant.
If you keep buying and trading in cheap electronics and other gadgets from such shady stuff without doing your due diligence, you may one day have to barter your bed and see yourself in prison.
