UK-based organization, Black Unity Bike Ride, arrived in Ghana in the early days of April 2023 with 18 top-class cyclists from the international cycling community to help raise funds to support the Vida Cycling Program.
The Black Unity Bike Ride,founded by Tokunbo Ajasa-Oluwa, is a UK charity initiative that began in the year 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. The organization seeks to encourage black people to participate in cycling activities and priorities their health and well-being
Cyclists from the United Kingdom, the USA, and the Middle East were hosted by Accra-based Gladiators Cycling Club.
They were also partnered by Ghanaian tour management company Blast Hours.
The ride tour, which started on the 15th of April 2023, consisted of 500km of cycling spread across four days and destinations include Cape Coast, Assin Manso, Takoradi, and Akosombo.
The group managed to raise an amount of 10,000 British Pounds in support of the Vida Cycling Program.
The VCF was founded by Vida Julliet Vivie as a grassroots program aimed at making cycling opportunities accessible and appealing to young girls.
Speaking to the reporters, the BUBR founder stated that he chose Ghana because of our strong and appealing bike culture hinting at a long-lasting relationship with the Gladiators Cycling Club and the biking community as a whole.
