Two attacks by jihadists in northeastern Mali have claimed the lives of dozens of civilians and soldiers. According to the military government, the provisional death toll is 49 civilians and 15 soldiers, but this could rise.
One of the attacks was on a boat carrying civilians sailing between the towns of Gao and Mopti. An army base in Bamba was also targeted. The government did not provide details of the attacks, but said the army killed about 50 perpetrators.
According to the government, responsibility has been claimed by the Islamic terrorist organization, which has ties to al-Qaeda. The junta has declared three days
UN mission
The northern part of Mali has been plagued by violent jihadists for some time. A UN peacekeeping force has been active since 2013, but this will soon end.
This is done at the insistence of the military regime, which only wants to cooperate with the Russian Wagner mercenary army. All 17,000 UN workers must be out of Mali before the end of the year.
